Butterfly Birthday Party - Sneak Peak

Creating this Butterfly Birthday Party for Madison's 5th birthday was so much fun! Thanks to Hobby Lobby and Halo Heaven (www.haloheaven.com) for making it possible. The wands, tutus and wings were purchased online at Halo Heaven. They were truly a hit at the party. The cake was created by Nadia of Cakes by Nadia (http://cakesbynadia.weebly.com/cakes.html) and our photographer was the one and only Sam McCall. Also, take a look at this blog...our party was featured on it...so cool! http://livepretty.com/2012/01/14/truly-living-pretty-a-mom-honors-her-passion-for-party-planning/#comments

Broken Heart

On Wednesday of last week, I dropped Madison off at school before I had to leave for the airport. I was Baltimore bound....work not pleasure; although I did enjoy the conference immensely. I attended the America Bar Association Forum on Franchise Conference. I was able to catch up with friends that I've made over the past three years of attending; while learning about all of the new laws as it pertains to Franchising. Wednesday was picture day, so before going in for the professional school pictures (see below), I wanted to grab one of my own (see above).

So, as I was saying....I dropped Madison at school and earlier that morning and late the night before, we both cried. We were going to miss each other, or so I thought! So as I drove away from the school, I see Madison in on the playground crying her little eyes out:
I start thinking to myself just how hard my going away will be on her. So, I pull over and ask, "Madison, what the matter, baby?" Her friend, Riley responds, "Derek broke her heart!" OMG!!!!! And I thought it was all about me! Who's heart is really broken now? LOL

Special Shout Out to my late Grandmother, Mavis Louise Ferguson. Happy 95th Birthday today! You are gone, but never forgotten! Love you!

Almost Five Years Old...

MADISON MACKENZIE

Wow! I cannot believe that almost five years have passed since Gordon and I brought Madison into this world! It's been five wonderful, rewarding, joyful, exciting years! It's truly amazing to watch her grow, explore and learn. She is the most inquisitive child I know! The questions never stop and the way she interprets non-verbal communication blows me away. Many call her precocious, some call her funny, others call her sweet, but we call her a miraculous blessing!

From Class Secretary to CEO

Gordon and I attended the Open House at Madison's school last night. We were able to meet the Kindergarten teachers for the next school year (August 2011), ask questions and see their classrooms. We also had the wonderful opportunity to meet with Madison's current K-4 teacher. Her teacher said that she is so surprised at how quickly Madison is progressing having only been at the school since January. Due to the fact that she started late in the school year (January 2011 vs. August 2010), she missed out on a lot of the lessons that were taught. However, she has caught on so quickly and at 4 years old she has already started reading and writing. Everywhere we go, she is sounding out the names of stores, streets, etc. If you ask her what a sentence is, she will tell you, "A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought...." ...and she goes on... I can't even remember it all. The teacher also said that she refers to Madison as the, "Class Secretary". She told us that whenever the class gathers for "group time", Madison always comes with a small notepad and pencil in hand and insists on taking notes! She listens intently with her eyes and her ears, while quickly writing down what she calls, "importants". The teacher told us that she even takes notes in Chapel; which is kind of funny, because at our church, our Pastor provides "fill in the blank" notes for all 1200-1500 parishoners and Madison watches us "take notes" in church every Sunday.
We are very proud of Madison. This week alone, she received two classroom awards. One award was the "Wise Worker" award and the other was the "Quiet as a Church Mouse" award. The teacher describes Madison as a very smart young lady who is a very good listener (is she still talking about our daughter) who she is convinced, will one day become a CEO. In fact, she was quite tickled to hear that Madison refers to herself as an entrepreneur and that we have "corporation meetings" every night. Our bylaws so far, as created by the President herself, are as follows: 1. We are Harrison Girls and we always use our listening ears. and 2. We don't get our name on the board at school. She calls me to her room every night to have these meetings. It's a lot of fun!

It's just amazing to us the strides she taken so far and she's only four years old. We know that GREAT things are in store for her and we contuine to pray for God's wisdom in raising her as only He knows the future. Her future.

"Big Girl School"

Mimi is doing so well at school. The teacher says that she's a good listener and that she has such a yearning for learning! We are very proud of her. She is adjusting to the sudden change very nicely and she looks just too darn cute in her uniform! We are excited and we are expecting GREAT things from her!

First Day at the "BIG GIRL" School

Madison was very excited to start her new school.
